Scarf with Fair Isle Boder.


As it is worked mainly in moss stitch this scarf is reversible. Its simple Fair Isle border makes it a good project for those new to this style of knitting. For added decoration there are beads worked into the cast on and cast off rows.

Materials

Four 50g balls of Debbie Bliss cotton double knitting in main colour (M). One ball eachof khaki, Red, Turquoise, Brown, Pink, and Yellow. Pair of 4mm (US 6) needles. 14 medium-sized wooden beads.

Measurements
110cm x 15cm/43 ¼ in x 6in.

Tension
21 sts and 32 rows to 10cm/4in square over moss st using 4mm (US6) needles.

Read chart from right to left on right side rows and from left to right on wrong side rows . When working in patt, strand yarn not in use loosely across wrong side .for border beside patt, use a separate ball of M and the intarsia method . Knitting with beads

To make

Thread seven beads onto first ball of M. Make a slip knot and place on needle, * bring a bead up along the yarn next to the needle, cast on 5 sts; rep from *5 times more, bring a bead up along the yarn next to  the needle,
Cast on one st. 32 sts.
Next row [k1,p1] 7 times , k1, p2tog, * k1, p1; rep from * to last st, k1. 31 sts.
Next row k1, p1, k1;rep from * to end. This row sets the moss st. Work 4 more rows in moss st.
**Next row. Moss st 5, p21, moss st5 work in patt from chart as folls; 1st row. Moss st 5 k next 21 sts from chart, moss st5. This row sets the patt.
Working 5 edge sts in moss st and chart in st st, work to end of chart. Cont M Next row moss st 5, p21, moss st 5.
***Next row k1, * p1, k1; rep from * to end. This row sets the moss st.
Cont in moss st until scarf measures 105cm/41 ¼ in from cast on edge, ending with a right

side row.

Work from**to*** Work 6 rows moss st across all sts, inc one st at centre the last row. 32 sts. Cast off row. Cut the yarn approximately 1 metre (3ft) from work. Thread on seven beads.P1* bring bead up yarn to needle and p the next st holding between the two sts with thumb, cast off 5 sts purlwise; rep from * ending last rep cast off one st, fasten off.
